WRI student leaders are trained as community organizers to provide public education about the WRI class, our Know Your Rights Trainings and local, state and federal welfare and education policy. In addition to organizing on the Hunter College campus, WRI works to organize students and education stakeholders throughout NYC.
WRI student leaders and staff participate in:

- Classroom Presentations
- Facilitating Know Your Rights Trainings across NYC
- Testimonies at public forums
- Co-teaching college classes focused on Social Welfare Policy
- Academic and Community Panels
Welfare Rights Initiative is also a member of a number of coalitions in NYS and on the federal level:
- Education Task Force (ETF) Founding Member
- Empire State Economic Security Campaign (ES2) Founding Member
- EJSWN ( Economic Justice and Social Welfare Network) Steering Committee Member
