Welfare Rights Initiative (WRI) is a grassroots student advocacy and leadership training organization located at Hunter College. Our work is centered around our belief that higher education is a human right that should not be denied to families and individuals receiving welfare.
Leadership Training
Since the first cohort of Hunter College students gathered together in 1995 to fight for their communities and serve as leaders, over 600 students have participated in the Community Leadership seminar.
The program consists of a 3-credit seminar in the fall semester followed by a 4-credit internship with WRI in the spring. Interested students can contact Dillonna Lewis or call 212-650-3569 for more information.
